Sevilla: the Andalusian Capital – Best City to Visit in 2018!

The Andalusian capital Sevilla is the best city to visit next year – according to travel guide Lonely planet – and here are our 5 reasons why!

Monuments: Sevilla is truly a magical town, and world-wide known not only for the setting of three famous operas, Carmen, Don Giovanni and the Barber of Sevilla, but also for its amazing monuments – no wonder UNESCO considers the Cathedral, the Royal Fortress and the Archivo de Indias in the ancient quarter of Sevilla as a “World Heritage Sites”.

Lifestyle: the relaxing atmosphere in Seville complements the way of life of the Sevillanos, who savour every moment of life. Go on a tapas tour through the old and the “in” districts of the city! The famous Flamenco bars in the Triana district open not before midnight, but it is well worth staying up late!

Art: apart from Opera and Flamenco, well worth visiting is Seville’s most important art collection at the “Museum of Fine Arts”, the beautiful Maria Luisa Park with its neighbouring Plaza de España – built for the first Expo in Seville 1929 – as well as the ancient Triana quarter on the other side of the river with its amazing ceramics factories.

Surroundings: Sevilla is also a great starting point for exploring the historic region of Andalusia: within easy reach you have the cities of Ronda and Jerez, and the famous “Route of the White Villages” between these 2 cities, same as Córdoba, Málaga, Marbella, Gibraltar and the beautiful beaches of the Costa de la Luz and the Costa del Sol. A bit further but still doable in a day is Granada with its amazing Alhambra, probably Spain’s most important monument.

Climate: with an average temperature of 19C/66F throughout the year, Seville is the warmest regional capital in Europe. It is indeed possible to find yourself on Christmas day or New Year’s Eve with big sun and more than 20C/68F and the desire to sunbath…
